The Power of Intent
“In order to float an idea into your reality, you must be willing to do a somersault into the inconceivable and land on your feet, contemplating what you want instead of what you don’t have.” ― Wayne W. Dyer, The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way
Living with intent is living a life of meaning and connection – it is the spirit or soul behind all desires, goals and visions. It helps us to stay focused on our desire and lead us to our true purpose. Like seeds being cast upon the earth, our positive intentions blossom into our thoughts, will and ultimately action. When we clearly state our intentions we are sending a message to the universe and to those around us that we are ready to participate in self-actualization and the expression of our personal evolution. Whether you want to start a business, shift a relationship, or take on a terrifying physical challenge – and everything in between – stating your intentions, sharing them with others, and revisiting them consistently, increases the likelihood of reaching your goal. Stating your intentions also provides the perfect framework for releasing the need to control specific outcomes. When you are clear and heartfelt in your intentions, you have done your best, even if things don’t turn out the way you expect.
An HBR article on the subject of intention states that “Understanding and communicating intent is rarely given much importance in business… Goals and vision are shared as carefully curated documents, or through great speeches created by well-oiled communications machines. CEOs forget that if the intent of these plans isn’t aligned with the communication, people may be impressed, but deep down inside, they will not believe in those plans or act on them.” – Nayar, Vineet. “The Power of Intent.” Harvard Business Review, 13 Feb 2013.
The article concludes that setting an intention “is applicable at any stage of a business’s life, be it start-up, growth, transformation, reinvention, or globalization. Indeed, that’s often the first step to success.”
