Grace and Grit
“I do not understand all the mystery of grace, only that it meets us where we are and does not leave us where it found us.” – Anne Lamott
One of my mentors once told me that true transformation is 80% grace and 20% effort. When we are tuned in to divine will and we are operating from connection to the truth of who we are, we enter into a flow with the universe that seems to make our lives unfold effortlessly. Yet, why does tuning into grace sometimes seem so hard? How do we become so disconnected?
Grit, on the other hand, is the willingness to feel uncomfortable as we face challenges, evolve, and work at our leadership edge. In the grit lies our will and our commitment to growth. But by relying on Grit alone, we can quickly become heavy, hard, depleted, alienated, anxious and ungrounded. Why is leaning toward drive and push and hard work the default rather than the exception? We get quick results with Grit, and who doesn’t want quick results? In reality, this “Do More Faster” paradigm of entrepreneurship and leadership is creating a culture of speed, anxiety and overwhelm, and it is extremely hard to stay connected to purpose and higher meaning in this state.
When we are tuned into Grace, we can access the tremendous power of universal flow and ease. In the end I have found that we can achieve our goals and intentions with much less Grit. It requires trust, surrender, receptivity and the belief that you are not in this alone.
In this Circle Up, we will explore perspectives and practices that will help us to develop more trust in the power of grace, while forging on and moving mountains from a place of grounded resilience.
